Trail Kilkenny
The Saturday Nore Valley Walk Bus Service Resumes on 1st June 2013

This stretch of the River Nore Walk takes roughly 2 hours at a moderate pace. Take in the stunning countryside as it passes through meadows, glades and past old mills, spot birdlife; a swift swooping to catch insects over the water or a heron perhaps and riverside flora and fauna; dog roses and meadowsweet - you may even spot an otter.
The Nore Valley Walk is clearly marked along the route and this stretch commences at Tynan's Butcher at the Bridge in Bennettsbridge. Enjoy!

Fused Glass Art Exhibition by Kathleen Leadbetter
Kathleen is the co-founders of Jerpoint Glass Studio, with the beautiful Kilkenny countryside as her muse she has created the distinctive combinations of colours now synonymous with Jerpoint Glass.
Using a technique called fusing she has turned to Mother Nature once again for inspiration to create her own range of fused glass pictures and wall pieces. The pieces depict landscapes and abstract collages or quirky interpretations of animals and fictional creatures. Kathleen's wall pieces and creatures can be seen in her exhibition at the Glass Attic Gallery at Jerpoint Glass studio throughout May.

Sunday 12th May 2013

“Gather the fall of the Apple tree,
Add water and balm till tasty be,
So fill me full of liquor sweet,
For that is good when friends do meet,
When friends do meet and liquor plenty,
Fill me again when I B MT”
Nick & Sue Mosse 1983
The much awaited Highbank Proper Cider, 2012 vintage will be opened and released to market on Sunday, 12 May. To celebrate and to mark this occasion, there will be a gathering of Veteran, Vintage and special Motoring cars at Highbank Orchards, Kilkenny, on the Sunday, for ”The Great Highbank Proper Cider Run.”

These cars will gather at Highbank Orchards where each of them will be entrusted with a bottle of this very special brew to be delivered to BrookLodge Hotel, Macreddan Village, Aughrim, Co. Wicklow. They will travel through a scenic route through the counties of Kilkenny, Wexford, Carlow and Wicklow, performing various challenges along route that will be open for voting on, by the public.
Highbank Proper Cider is unique in that it is the only Irish Cider made from organic cider apples and brewed on their own natural yeasts. Gluten free and delicious, this is how cider was always brewed in olden times. Highbank Orchards have been free from any chemical applications of any kind for many years so that the micro flora are balanced and in harmony.
“She turned to the sunlight and shook her yellow head,
And whispered to her neighbour: "winter is dead.”
A.A.Milne
Kilkenny Pembroke Hotel will host a reception on the eve of the run. The 4 star Pembroke Hotel has a proud historic connection with motoring as it was for almost 100 years the Ford Garage for the south east of Ireland. Many successful racing cars were built in what are now the main reception rooms of the Pembroke back in the 1920s. Cars will be on view during the evening in Kilkenny.
The Highbank Proper Cider Run will finish with prize giving at Brook Lodge Hotel, Macreddin Village, the only organically certified Hotel and Restaurant complex in these islands. BrookLodge is run by Evan Doyle, who promises, with his wonderful chefs from the Strawberry Tree Restaurant, to create a magnificent organic pig roast finale to the event.
(Bookings essential for pig roast.info@brooklodge.com 0402 36444)
Spectators are welcome Sun 12th May to Highbank Orchards from 10.00a.m. to see the cars depart and are invited to Brooklodge from 5.00p.m onwards to see the finish.
The general public is invited to join in the fun and vote by ‘liking’ their favorite car photographs on Facebook, during the ‘run’.
