The most spectacular fashion show staged in the southeast, the search for a fashion designer of the future, pop up fashion showings, an event for senior fashionistas, style workshops, late night shopping, cocktail competition and myriad in-store events are amongst the many creative initiatives scheduled for the 2nd Kilkenny Fashion Week.
With a fashion schedule and bumper fringe programme to suit every age and taste, Kilkenny Fashion Week will represent the biggest collective marketing initiative ever undertaken by local fashion retailers to promote Kilkenny as a premier shopping destination and showcase city centre shopping. Such an undertaking is essential, according to organisers, for the future of Kilkenny city.
"It is vital to both preserve and revitalise our town and city centres. Town centres are vital to the community and retailing is an essential element in the re-invigoration of our town and city centres. Kilkenny has a unique sense of place and identity and we want to showcase that. With Kilkenny Fashion Week, it's not just about promoting fashion retail. It's not about an increase in sales - although that is most welcome. It's about planning for Kilkenny's future to ensure that Kilkenny remains a wonderful, vibrant city," said Phil Walsh, CEO of Goods and spokesperson for Kilkenny Fashion Week.
"Over the coming weeks we have lined up significant and hugely valuable media coverage, such as national fashion features in weekend press, glossy magazine editorials and TV coverage that will promote Kilkenny as a whole as well as putting a spotlight on individual fashion boutiques and department stores", said Phil Walsh. "Such positive showcasing is hugely beneficial to the local economy at a time when the overall economy and the retail sector is being challenged".
