Trio Vintage: Ariadne Daskalakis, baroque violin Markus Möllenbeck, baroque cello Gerald Hambitzer, harpsichord "Chamber-music gold" MusicWeb International "[Daskalakis'] striking athleticism, musical insight, expressive embellishment and elegiac lyricism..." The Strad This recital in Kilkenny Castle sees prize-winning violinist Ariadne Daskalakis go head-to-head with two of Germany's foremost early music specialists: Markus Möllenbeck and Gerald Hambitzer. Daskalakis has been playing on period instruments since her time with the acclaimed Manon Quartet in the late 1990s, and often performs without a conductor following the traditions of the time. She has won many plaudits for her soulful playing, dazzling technique and astonishing ability to adapt her sound to suit different composers and periods. A featured soloist with orchestras such as the English Chamber Orchestra, the Cologne Chamber Orchestra and the Prague Chamber Orchestra, she has performed in many of Europe's most prestigious chamber music venues. The perfect foil for Daskalakis' sparkling sound and rhythmic power, Markus Möllenbeck was for many years the principal cellist of the ground-breaking Musica Antiqua Köln under Reinhard Goebe and has also worked extensively with La Stagione Frankfurt and the Musiciens du Louvre. Gerald Hambitzer is one of most sought-after harpsichordists of his generation and has appeared on over 40 CDs. A long-term member of Concerto Köln, he is perhaps best known for his solo recordings of harpsichord concertos by J.S. Bach, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach and Francesco Durante.

 | Sunday 25th April 4 pm The Parade Tower, Kilkenny CastleXuefei Yang, guitar Natalie Clein, cello "She is a performer of such great magnetism that she sweeps her audiences along with her, so much so that it is almost a shock when she stops playing and you find yourself back in the real world once more." The Oxford Times on Natalie Clien "One of the most extraordinary instrumentalists in the world. Ms Yang plays her Spanish music, like her other music, fabulously; with sparkle, clarity and flair." The New York Sun This unmissable tour features two truly spell-binding performers. Natalie Clein's remarkable talent first came to the world's attention when, aged sixteen, she won the BBC's "Young Musician of the Year" award. Since then she has won a Classical Brit award and performed with many of the world's finest orchestras and chamber music ensembles. If her innate musicality and gorgeous tone weren't already leaving the critics breathless, she has been fearless in combining traditional repertoire with more experimental pieces. Clein's pioneering spirit is more than matched by Xuefei Yang: first-ever guitarist in China to enter a music school or launch a professional career, and first to sign an international recording contract with EMI. Lauded for her "feisty virtuosity", light touch and precision, Yang gives a new meaning to the phrase "in demand" - in 2003 alone she performed 54 concerts for the "Night of the Proms" Tour, appearing in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany to a combined audience of over 800,000 people!

Kilkenny Traditional Irish Music Do Bhíosa Lá i bPortlairge - Music from the South East David Power, Uilleann pipes Fionn Mac Goillachuda, fiddle Ciarán Somers, flute Traditional Irish Tour Do Bhíosa Lá i bPortlairge - Music from the South East David Power, Uilleann pipes Fionn Mac Goillachuda, fiddle Ciarán Somers, flute "David Power brings a breathtaking freshness to the set, his fluid, fluent playing as light as a feather." Siobhan Long, Irish Times The title of this Best of Irish concert which means "I spent a day in Waterford", is the first line of a song once heard in national schools across the country. Could its catchy melody be influenced by the sunny local climate? Find out as this tour unearths a veritable treasure trove of music with its origins in the Co. Waterford Gaeltacht and the surrounding region. Leading the charge is virtuoso Uilleann piper David Power, former All-Ireland winner and a member of Liam Clancy's Fairweather Band in the early 90s. In recent years, he has recorded two highly-acclaimed solo CDs as well as performing alongside such trad giants as Tony Mac Mahon and Máirtín O'Connor. Joining David is flautist Ciarán Somers, a native of Mhuine Bheag, Co. Carlow, who is noted for his musical links with Brittany: his recent CD Faoi Bhláth was recorded there with fiddler Dave Sheridan and Breton guitarist Nicolas Quemener, formerly of Arcady. Dubliner Fionn Mac Goillachuda first fell in love with trad music in An Rinn and later returned there to record two CDs with local musicians. In addition to numerous TV and radio appearances he has toured in Japan and across Europe in the distinguished company of The Helvick Heads, Dónal Clancy and Gorumna.
