CRAFT STUDIOS

The foundation of the Kilkenny Design Workshops in the 1970's, the location of the Crafts Council of Ireland headquarters inKilkenny city in 1998 and the establishment of the Grennan Mill Craft College in Thomastown in 1999 have all contributed to the growth of a strong creative community in Kilkenny city and county.

From the traditional to the avant garde, beautiful and collectible pieces by these highly skilled craftspeople can be admired in craft?shops and in craft studios throughout city and county. If you are interested in craft and design, it is well worth while planning a tour of the craft studios in Kilkenny. Chesneau Leather was established over thirty years ago by French designer, Edmond Chesneau and is located at the edge of Bennettsbridge village, seven kilometres from Kilkenny city.

The collections combine a timeless, classic look with hardwearing durability.
Chesneau is renowned for its attention to detail, structural functionality and classic aesthetic. Remarkably, so many different styles originate from one prolific designer, but each style answers back to the master aesthetic of the brand. Collections generally are made in small runs with limited-edition leathers, adding to the exclusivity of a Chesneau piece.
Each Chesneau handbag is reinforced with a full leather lining and careful attention is paid to uniquely designed forms, fastenings and fittings, which express a touch of the equestrian referenced from Edmond Chesneau's love of horses and saddlery.

The range includes ladies handbags - available in both classic and bright seasonal colours - executive, small goods and travel luggage.

Visit The Chesneau Shop at Bennettsbridge and view the current collections

In 2005, Chesneau opened its Dublin flagship store at 37 Wicklow St.

Jerpoint Glass Studio

Jerpoint Glass is a small family-run
glassblowing studio in the Southeast
of Ireland. The studio is located in the
picturesque valley of the River Nore
overlooking the Hills of Leinster in
Co. Kilkenny.

The Fiery Furnace where the raw materials
are melted into Molten Glass, the near
white-hot Glory Holes where Glasses are
reheated in their making, and the skills of the Glassmakers as they Blow, Balance, and Manipulate flowing red-hot glass into its desired shape, make the art of Glassmaking a most exciting spectacle.

At Jerpoint you can get really close to the action.

Keith Leadbetter received his training at the prestigious Orresfors Glass Factory in Sweden in the late sixties. The Swedish design philosophy and Keith's own personal feeling on form have blended together to create the Jerpoint Glass of today. Kathleen has a natural sense of aesthetics and is always encouraging new themes.

At Jerpoint each glass is individually made and finished by hand, giving each piece a distinct personality and charm. The vibrant colours will make Jerpoint a welcome addition to any home.

Keith and Kathleen Leadbetter and their staff look forward to meeting you at the studio and the Jerpoint Seconds Shop.
