Savour Kilkenny 2010 - October Bank Holiday weekend 22-25th October
Savour Kilkenny will serve up a feast for all 5 senses in the spectacular heritage county of Kilkenny: tasting local food, hearing the stories of chefs and makers, touching real produce, seeing how food is made and cooked, smelling a wonderful variety of food aromas.
Background
The Savour Kilkenny Food Festival is in its fourth year this year - having been established in 2006 by a group of Kilkenny people who are passionate about food: whether growing it, making it, cooking it or eating it. Thanks to the hard work of its voluntary committee and thanks to the support of partner organisations and sponsors, it has gone from strength to strength.
This year, thanks to support from the Kilkenny LEADER Partnership, we are broadening the festival to have a highly visible event which allows people to experience food and to celebrate the best of local and regional produce alongside some of the best Irish producers and restaurateurs.
Events
The festival centrepiece will be on the Parade Plaza with a bustling open-air market showcasing the best of local and regional produce, while street performers, face-painters and musicians will provide the sights and sounds.
In our food hothouse marquee, we will have a series of ticketed events where visitors can experience the journey from farm to fork through anything from wine tastings and cookery demonstrations, to workshops on apple-pressing, cheese-making, "forgotten skills" and lots more.
As in previous years, there will be events throughout Kilkenny City. MacDonagh Junction will play host to a number of events, and a number of the restaurants around town are already making plans.
We want to celebrate the wealth of food heritage throughout the County so we will support a number of county-wide food events and link up with the Kilkenny Food Trail to provide visitors with an opportunity to "get out of town" and experience food where it is made.
The Festival is not just about events for visitors and shoppers - we want to provide a platform for restaurateurs and producers to showcase Kilkenny's food heritage to national and international press, to meet and network with buyers, bloggers, food writers, travel writers and some of Ireland's top celebrity chefs.
